
Have you ever done something because you know that you will get a reward for that ? Have you done something because it makes you happy? Have you done something to make you feel worthy?
In all these instances , unknowingly you were working for a reward, a gift , something good you would get after you do the thing you are doing.
According to prominent psychological theories, our brain functions on reward system. In other words, when we do something and get a reward for it afterwards(like a gift, a smile, happiness, feeling proud, feeling worthy and so on) , then we tend to do it often. If punishment is what we get after doing something, like someone getting upset, we getting upset or feeling bad , we getting sad or depressed, we tend to run away from such tasks.
But what happens when we stop doing the works which get us rewards?
We begin lacking motivation and enter into a cycle of boredom, irritation, frustration and procrastination ( the habit of postponing doing work to future). This in turn makes it harder for us to get the energy to do any task which will ultimately make us feel good and proud or get us rewards. This starts a negative cycle of staying unproductive.
Have you entered into a cycle like this? A cycle of boredom and less energy !!

Well ! to stop a cycle like this , you must do daily , those activities which are rewarding for you. It may be reading a book, cooking, going for a run, exercising, meditating, cleaning, gardening and so on. This boosts your positive emotions. Not only that, it also breaks the cycle of unproductivity and relieves us of negative emotions like anger, frustration, irritation. Most importantly , it relieves us of stress.
But what to do if you are still not able to motivate yourself enough to get up and do those rewarding activities?
If motivation is lagging and you are not able to make yourself do the rewarding activities, it will help you if you start imagining (visualizing) yourself doing such activities. This will increase your chances of getting up and doing the rewarding activities.
