Four Mind Exercises you can do while taking a walk

Wondering what are mind exercises? – Mind exercises are some things you do at mental level which train your mind to work efficiently.

Often when we go for a walk, be it in the morning or evening, we tend to get lost in our thoughts – what who said to us , what who thinks about us, all the negative emotions we felt lately, some challenge we are going through and so on. This does not lead to anything productive. Some people listen to music while walking. While that is nice use of the time but what if you had something nicer to do? After all you are health conscious if you are going for a walk. Then why not use that time as a healthy time for mind as well?

So, below I am sharing with you some of the mind exercises which are easy to do. They are simple yet effective. They will multiply your efforts to stay healthy manifold. They will help you utilise the time you have during walk by using that time on your mind.

The mind exercises you can do while walking are:

  1. Attention Exercise

To do this exercise, you have to pay attention to what is happening in your surroundings while you are walking. And then you have to say inwardly in your mind to yourself, all that is happening around. For example, if a person walks you by and he is wearing a blue t shirt, then you have to be aware of this. Observe this and say to yourself, “ a person wearing blue T shirt walked past me.”

This way , observe a car standing by, a bird flying above your head, people talking, sun glowing, people walking by, and stuff happening around you.

This exercise will help you to stay in the present moment. This in turn will avoid any negative thoughts that might cloud your mind if you leave your mind alone during the walk.

2. Hearing Exercise

In this exercise, you have to just consciously listen to all sounds in your surroundings. Begin by noticing the first sound that comes to your attention. Then along with that, move your attention to the next sound you are hearing and so on. The sounds may anything from birds chirping to cars moving. Keep doing this while you walk.

This will enhance your hearing capabilities and improve your auditory sense.

3. Mudras

While walking, your hands are free. So why not use them to benefit your health?

There are some specific positions of the fingers which once set enhance your hormonal levels and bring positive effects to the mind. These positions of fingers are called Mudras (Indian).

You can do Prana Mudra while walking. Or you can also do Gyan mudra. These are as shown in the figures below:

4. Affirmations

You can choose an affirmation that best suits your wishes and needs and you can reiterate the affirmation in your mind while taking the walk. If you walk for say 30 minutes, this affirmation will also stay in your mind for 30 minutes.

One good affirmation is – I am getting better everyday in every way.

Happy Walking !!! …
