Not able to talk to people? Have social anxiety? Do this

Sometimes when you are among people, go to a social event or just be in your routine places like college or workplace , you may experience anxiety and discomfort. This discomfort may be due to you feeling unable to interact with people confidently. Sometimes this is also termed as social anxiety. Following are the shifts you can make in such situations:

  • In place of:

approaching social situations as a performance where we need to perform and feel as if everyone is watching and judging us,

You can try to:

think of these social situations as an exchange of energy.

This means that you go in these situations and simple interact with people.

  • In place of :

focussing on how others are perceiving me,

You can try to:

focus on how you can positively contribute to the situation.

  • In place of :

Worrying about what to say next in the conversation

You can try to:

Listen actively and be fully present in the conversation.

  • In place of :

Wanting everyone to like me

You can try to:

Focus on being authentic and trust that genuine connections will form naturally.

  • In place of :

Thinking of yourself as not confident or thinking that I am poor at socialising

You can try to:

Embrace the belief that social skills and confidence can be developed through patience and efforts.

Happy socialising !
